“I want to tell everyone the truth about what happened. Because I didn’t get the chance,” Natalia says in a first-look clip for The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks (via YouTube).

“The Curious Case of Natalia Grace,” Told a Strange Story of an Adoption Gone Wrong

In The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, the strange story of Natalia, an orphan from Ukraine with a rare bone problem that causes her to be short, was told. Natalia was taken in by Michael and Kristine Barnett of Indiana in 2010. At first, they thought that their new daughter was six. But they soon came to believe that she was really an adult who was violent and mentally ill and was pretending to be a kid.

“She won’t tell us the truth about who she is,” Michael says in the three-night docuseries that ran at the end of May. “We live with a con artist who is also a sociopath,” Michael says that Natalia tried to kill his wife with poison and stab his kids. He and his wife changed Natalia’s age on paper to 22 in the end.

They moved to Canada soon after that, leaving Natalia in an apartment they had set up for her. A family later took Natalia in because they thought she was a kid.

Natalia Grace Barnett Says Her Adopted Family is Spreading Lies

The fact that Michael and Kristine left Natalia behind led to their arrest in 2019. Michael was charged with abuse in 2022, but he was found not guilty. WTHR said that Kristine’s charges were dropped in March 2023. The Journal & Courier, which has written a lot about the case, said that authorities had proof that Natalia was born in 2003. During Michael Barnett’s hearing, however, they were not able to give the jury that information.

The arrest of Natalia’s foster parents in 2019 led to a gag order that kept her from telling her side of the story until recently. Now, she can say what she wants. She also says that the Barnetts are lying and sneaky.

Natalia says in the trailer for the planned documentary, “What Michael said I did is a lie.”

“She was trying to make me look like a big, crazy person,” she says, probably about Kristine. “That isn’t right.”

Natalia wants people to know that the Barnetts’ version of her story isn’t the whole story. “This is my story, and I’m only gonna tell it once,” she says.
