However, they run into congestion, and the highway is blocked by soldiers. Tom convinces them to open the way for their car. On the road, they are stopped by an impostor police car, which sparks a shootout that ultimately injures Tom.
Meeting Ricki: They use the police car to tow their broken-down car to a nearby reservation, where mechanic Ricki fixes the car and decides to travel with them.
